New Orleans (February 23, 2015) – Snorkel is showing a new boom platform design at The Rental Show which will be introduced on the new family of mid-size boom lifts, which are also being launched at the show. The new platform will be rolled out across the Snorkel boom range in future.
The new 8-foot x 3-foot platform design incorporates rear saloon gates as standard, plus two side gravity bars for tri-entry, allowing the operator to access the platform from all sides, even when the lift is positioned near obstacles.
Designed with the rental industry in mind, the new platform can be repaired and replaced easily and affordably. The entire platform weldment can be removed with just 6 bolts, making it quick and easy to switch out different sized platforms for specific applications, and easy to replace damaged platforms, reducing machine downtime. The platform electrics, such as the control box, secondary guarding system, and footswitch are mounted directly to the pedestal, meaning that there is no wiring which needs to be changed during the platform replacement process.
The platform floor is also removable, so rental companies do not need to change out the entire platform if the flooring is damaged.
The new platform design is fitted with a light-duty panel carrier as standard, which is suitable for lifting lightweight sheets such as drywall. The panel carrier is built-into the platform steel work, reducing the chance of damage, loss or theft.
Furthermore, Snorkel is pleased to announce that the new platform design will be fitted with the new in-house designed ‘Snorkel Guard’ secondary guarding system. This is a spring-mounted rail that sits above the upper control panel and cuts out machine operations when compressed, such as in the case of the operator being struck by an overhead obstacle. The system has a switch in the platform that allows the operator to override the system if activated in error. When the system is activated, the lift can be operated from the lower control panel.
The new platform will be fitted as standard on all new Snorkel mid-size boom lifts, and will be available in the Summer.
The ‘Snorkel Guard’ system is available to order now, and can be retrofitted to most existing Snorkel booms with platform heights of 40-feet and above.
Both the new platform and the ‘Snorkel Guard’ secondary guarding system can be seen on the Snorkel booth at The Rental Show – booth #9213.
