Snorkel Launches New Mid-Size Telescopic Boom Lift At The Rental Show 2016

Atlanta, Georgia (February 22, 2016)  Snorkel will officially launch the production version of its new Snorkel 660SJ at The Rental Show 2016. The Snorkel 660SJ will be the largest model in the new family of four mid-sized boom lifts, which includes the 400S, 460SJ and 600S.

It is equipped with a 60-ft. 2-in. (18.3m) boom plus a 6-ft. 6-in. (2.0m) jib boom which articulates 135°, from -65° to +70°. The Snorkel 660SJ delivers 66-ft. 8-in. (20.3m) maximum platform height, 59-ft. (18m) maximum outreach, and can lift up to 600 lbs. (272kg). It measures 7-ft. 10-in. (2.38m) wide and its 34-ft. 5-in. (10.4m) stowed length can be reduced to 28 ft. (8.5m) for transport by stowing the jib underneath the boom.

Excellent Rough Terrain Performance

Built to handle tough environments, the Snorkel 660SJ delivers excellent rough terrain performance thanks to a traction manifold that delivers oil to all four wheels at all times, providing constant 4-wheel drive.  It can also tackle gradients of up to 43%. The lift has fixed axles as standard, reducing complexity and risk of downtime. Oscillating axles are available as an option.

Durability Combined with Simplicity

The 660SJ features a steel, 4-plate ‘top hat’ style boom weldment that is manufactured in Selma, Calif., a durable steel cowling and has two individual steel doors on each side of the lift, in the traditional Snorkel-style. The turret offers 360° continuous rotation, and delivers a constant 47-in (1.2m) tailswing radius to prevent collisions when slewing the machine.

The lift also has a new steel chassis that will be common across all new Snorkel mid-size telescopic and articulated booms, helping to standardize parts and create familiarity for service engineers. Simplicity remains at the heart of Snorkel’s design philosophy, and the 660SJ has open-loop hydraulics and CAN-BUS controllers, which will be common across all future boom models for easier maintenance, service and training.

The operator benefits from all proportional functions, including drive, raise, slew and extend.  Jib and platform rotate are also proportional representing a first in the AWP industry.

Loaded with Innovative Features

Finally, the 660SJ showcases Snorkel’s new, innovative 8-ft. x 3-ft. tri-entry platform design with saloon doors, which has 150° platform rotation for precise positioning.

Additionally, the lift is equipped with Snorkel Guard™ secondary guarding system as standard.  The new platform also features a built-in, light duty panel carrier. For ease of maintenance, the new platform can be easily switched out, without the need to disconnect the hydraulics or wiring, minimizing downtime.

The Snorkel 660SJ is now available to order.  Find Snorkel at Booth #3423 at The Rental Show 2016.
