Orlando, Florida (February 27, 2017) Snorkel’s very first telescopic boom lift, the Snorkel TB-42 will make an appearance at The Rental Show 2017.
The first Snorkel TB-42 was launched at the Chicago Plant Engineering and Maintenance Show in 1977. Forty years later, the lift has been fully restored and will be on display for the first time since the restoration on Snorkel’s booth at The Rental Show 2017.
The original TB-42 was developed under the direction of Snorkel founder, Art Moore, who is being inducted into the American Rental Association Hall of Fame at the start of the show, in recognition of his contributions to the equipment rental industry.
The Snorkel TB-42 was created by Art’s desire to build a ‘wholly improved’ aerial work platform. Working with a team of engineers led by Ken Davidson, Art and the team blended many ideas and went through extremely thorough testing procedures to create a telescopic boom lift that would outperform existing lifts at the time.
The actual result was a telescopic boom lift that not only outperformed the competitors, but also stood the test of time. The Snorkel TB-42 and future telescopic boom lifts are recognized globally as some of the toughest, longest-lasting, and simplest lifts available. After over 35 years service, the original TB-42 was driven into Snorkel’s rebuild facility in Elwood, Kansas in 2014 in full working order and underwent a three-year restoration.
During the intensive restoration process, the TB-42 was completely taken apart and all non-original modifications were removed and replaced with sourced or fabricated Snorkel parts. Everything from the engine to the wiring and control boxes, front cowling, hydraulics and turntable were replaced or rebuilt to the original 1977 specifications. The first Snorkel logo with the fire hose represented on the “S” also found its home back on the boom. The final touch was painting TB-42 back to the renowned Omaha-orange and white motif.
